But say you were to come up with a song title inspired by one of your smoking triggers, what would it be?

I’ll kick off with an example:

Okay, yes, Youโ€™re right. Letโ€™s put a ๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ญ on this game. One YouTube stalker is enough for me. I know it’s my fault. It’s always been my fault.

But you see Iโ€™m in a challenging position here.

Iโ€™m committed to writing blogs about ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฑ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ด๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ฉ๐˜บ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ด at least once a week.

Do you know how hard it is to keep bleating on about something that has to:

A) Deliver relevant content to people wanting to ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฒ

B) Use enough of the important key words such as โ€˜๐‡๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ง๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ง๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐ฆ๐žโ€™ โ€˜๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฒโ€™ ๐š๐ง๐ โ€˜๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ โ€™ to feed the google algorithms.

C) Make it personal enough that people know that youโ€™re a real person.

D) Be written in a way which engages me enough so Iโ€™m not going to arrive at a point of absolute apathy, decide itโ€™s all over and reach for a pack of cigarettes and smoke myself to death as quickly as possible.

Iโ€™ve seen three smokers this week, one was for mainly weed but all of them share similar triggers โ€“ and by triggers I mean, things that make them reach automatically for a cigarette.

Here are some of the triggers that have been discussed this week by the smokers Iโ€™ve seen who have

1.) Getting out of bed (I know one might be forgiven for believing waking up an opportunity for a deep breath but nah fuck the lungs and their needs, let’s have a fag.

2.) Youโ€™ve got up, youโ€™ve brushed your teeth and youโ€™ve got a coffee or tea. What goes better with a cup of tea or coffee than a cigarette? (Itโ€™s a tough one. I remember that fag and coffee โ€“ itโ€™s pretty horrid kissing combo though)

3.) So now youโ€™re already up, dressed, coffeeโ€ฆ.youโ€™ve even unpacked the dishwasher. Reward time. Go on! Have a quick one, and take another few minutes off your absurdly long life. Dogs donโ€™t live for that long, why on earth should you?

4.) You go to a job, itโ€™s stressful and you punctuate your boredom with smoking. Itโ€™s the best bit of the day. You get to be by yourself and your own thoughts of dying horribly with cancer.

5.) You use it to help you concentrate, only you had to stop
doing what you were doing in order to smoke and concentrate on the thing youโ€™ve taken a break from. Our minds are incredible.

6.) After sex. ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฒ stop having it. How old are you anyway? Very old if you’re reading this on Facebook. Iโ€™m joking. Have an argument. Iโ€™m joking. Go to sleep! I’m joking. I can’t either. Read! You donโ€™t want to? Honestly, youโ€™ll forget all about that one. It wasn’t really the cigarette that was good.

7.) Youโ€™re friends are all smoking and drinking and itโ€™s fun. Another tough one itโ€™s true, but the truth is it only seems seductive in that moment, when you feel invincible and forget about how you are struggling to run with your kid who plays football.

8.) Youโ€™re children are young, they are hard work and escaping out into the garden where you can get five minutes away from them and your partner is worth the cigarette โ€“ even though you know itโ€™s killing you, infact there are times when slow suicide seems the kindest option all around.

But listen, here’s the thing! Here’s the absolute beauty of it. You can still go outside when you ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ง๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ simply by being honest.

but because thereโ€™s a part of me that loves you, a much bigger part that wants to run away from the drudgery and knows this absolute boredom and frustration will pass, Iโ€™m just going to take five minutes out and ๐˜‰๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ outside by the bin where you can see me because I want to live and be with you and our children, more than I want to smoke cigarettes and kill myself.

Now of course this trigger list is not exhaustive or applicable to all of you and should you be reading this as a smoker and have no wish to quit, good luck to you.
